Published by Chapman and Hall in 1850, this half leather-bound edition of The Life and Adventures of Martin Chuzzlewit features marbled boards and a frontispiece illustration by Frank Stone.
One of Dickens’ more complex novels, it delves into themes of selfishness and greed, woven into a satirical narrative. The novel follows Martin Chuzzlewit, who sets off to America in search of fortune but ends up facing numerous misadventures.
The boards are half leather-bound with a marbled effect and show signs of wear, primarily along the edges. There are visible cracks at the joint where the covers meet the spine, measuring about one to two centimeters. These are surface-level and do not affect the structural integrity of the book. There is light to moderate tanning to the title page, heavier spotting on the frontispiece, and heavier tanning to the endpapers. Throughout the book, there is light intermittent spotting, with heavier spotting towards the first and last few pages. Despite these signs of age, the pages remain clean, and the binding is firm. Overall, this copy is in good condition for its age.
