Cassette playback, record, rewind, and fast-forward are operational. Treble and bass dials produce excellent sound clarity through the built-in speaker. The telescopic antenna extends fully, and the signal strength indicator (S-meter) is functional. Backlight to the meter works. Slight temperamental behaviour in the mode switch requires some adjustment for recording or playback.

The microphone and auxiliary in/out ports are untested. Designed with durable construction, this well-engineered unit is a sought-after vintage piece for collectors or enthusiasts. Marks consistent with age; please review photos for details.

Condition report

This Sony CF-950S has been tested and is functional. The mode switch is somewhat temperamental; for optimal cassette playback performance, you should deselect every band and switch the mode to the off position. Also, the left metal handle is fixed in place, however it is loose. When lifting the stereo I recommend only using the handle at the top of the device. Cassette recorder: Playback, record, rewind, and fast-forward are operational. Radio bands: AM/FM/SW bands work as expected, with good signal reception. Audio clarity: Excellent sound quality through the speaker; bass and treble dials function smoothly. Antenna: Fully extends and retracts without issue. Backlight: Meter backlight operates as expected. Mode switch: Slightly temperamental; needs careful adjustment for radio recording. Auxiliary ports and microphone: Untested. Cosmetics: Light marks consistent with age but no dents or damage.
