Description

A beautifully matched pair of Meiji period Japanese bronze vases, each signed Kōshū (光舟刻). The vases are finely inlaid in gold, silver and shakudō, depicting proud cockerels perched among blossoming branches. The bronzes display an elegant slender baluster form with a subtle graduated patina that enhances the artistry of the decoration. Height: 24cm.

Condition report

Both vases are in very good condition with no structural damage or repairs. The metalwork is crisp and clean, showing only light surface marks and natural age patination. Minor traces of oxidation are visible around the bases, consistent with age. The signatures remain clear and well defined.
