Published by Richard Bentley and Son in 1888, this is volume one of the third edition. Mr. & Mrs. Bancroft On and Off the Stage provides an autobiographical narrative of the lives of renowned stage actors Marie Wilton (Mrs. Bancroft) and her husband. Rich with personal anecdotes, this volume captures the charm and challenges of Victorian theatre life, complete with a fold-out handwritten letter.

Condition report

This volume is in good condition. The boards show some marking, discolouration, and slight edge wear, with a couple of small tears (approximately 5 mm) to the cloth at the top and bottom of the spine. There is mild wear to the gutter adjacent to the first pastedown, and a retail pencil mark on the fly title page. The tissue guard remains intact, and the pages are generally clean. The binding is relatively firm. Notably, this copy includes a fold-out handwritten letter in good condition.
