This is a 1st edition copy published in 1886 by Cassell. 

This copy features the 1st issue identification points, including "business" on line 11 p. 40, "Long Islands" on lines 9-10 of page 101 and "nine o'clock" on line 1 of p. 64. It also includes 11 pages of rear adverts, which print "5G.4.86" and "5B.4.86" in first issue copies. Publisher's name printed at the foot of the spine. Spine lettering in gilt. Features a fold out map (in colour) and is bound in publisher's original red cloth.

The previous owner has signed the title page (dated 1886). The spine is slightly cocked and there's foxing or damp on the map. There's also foxing or damp at the top corners of the pages that bleeds only minimally onto the text (see images). There's some small marks on front and back covers and slight wear at edges of the covers. The text block is tight
