Description
A Japanese bronze vase signed Seiya, dating from the late Meiji period (c.1890–1910). The slender baluster form is adorned with irises in high relief, the stems and leaves wrapping gracefully around the body and neck. The base bears the two-character signature 誠谷 (Seiya), denoting the Genryusai Seiya workshop of Tokyo, known for naturalistic castings and refined patination. Height 27 cm.
Condition report
The vase is in good condition, with an even chocolate-brown patina and attractive olive undertones. The relief work is crisp throughout with no casting flaws. There is light oxidation and surface rubbing to the raised areas and base rim consistent with age, contributing to a desirable depth of tone. The piece is structurally sound and the signature is legible.
