Description

A fine antique ship’s wheel by Brown Brothers & Co. Ltd, Rosebank Ironworks, Edinburgh, renowned suppliers of marine fittings in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

This example measures approximately 64 cm (25 in) in diameter and is constructed with a brass frame and eight turned hardwood handles. The central boss is clearly stamped with the maker’s details, and the piece retains an attractive patina, with surface wear consistent with age and areas of light verdigris, giving it the authentic character of maritime service.

Condition report

Condition overall is excellent for its age. The handles are well preserved, the brass has mellowed to a rich tone, and the wheel presents beautifully as both a historical artefact and a decorative statement piece.
