The book is in good condition for its age. There is a slightly larger crack to the top right edge of the spine cloth, which is visible in the images, and prospective buyers are encouraged to view the pictures. There is minor wear to the boards and slight wear to the gutter adjacent to the paste-down and flyleaf. The title pages and frontispiece for both works show light tanning, with heavier spotting on the frontispiece and title page of Sketches by Boz. There is also intermittent spotting throughout, with heavier spotting toward the end of Sketches by Boz. Otherwise, the pages show light spotting and tanning. The binding remains firm.
